Small Business Consultant, Angie Taffs, tells us why it's so important to get into the right mindset for business.
"Having the right mindset is critical to achieving what you want in business and in life. So many women I meet lack that inner confidence and self-belief and the saying is so true, if you don't believe in yourself, why should anyone else?
Too many women shy away from going after what they really want as they are afraid of putting their self out there in case people tell them they are not good enough.
In business, you must believe you are good enough. You must believe what you sell is worth the price you are charging. You must believe that clients will gladly hand their money over to you without hesitation because they are going to get such value from what you are selling them.
If you don't truly believe any of those points, then you are going to struggle. It’s the same with general life. If you want to run a marathon but you keep listening to that negative chatter in your mind telling you that you can’t do it, you will make every excuse in the book not to get out there and run.
Go grab a sheet of paper and start to write down everything you are good at. This doesn’t have to business related. It can be absolutely anything. Think about when you get praise from people who say to you 'oh you're really good at ….' or 'I wish I could do that as well as you'. Sit quietly and remember what people have praised you for and write it down.
Write down all the qualifications and training you have had over the years. Jot down positions you have held and the responsibilities you had within these and how good you were at these.
Now, move on to life experiences and people you have helped. Sit quietly and dig deep into those memories. Realise how wonderful you truly are and what talents you have to offer others.
When you have finished the exercise (which could take hours or even days), create a board of all your achievements, talents and positive traits. Put that board up where you can see it every day and start to believe in yourself. If you haven’t anywhere private to pin anything up, simply print off on a piece of paper and carry around with you in your bag but remember to look at it regularly.
Believe in yourself and you will be unstoppable!" - Angie Taffs.
