The Voice - Local Radio for North Devon - Broadcasting from Barnstaple on DAB Digital Radio and on 106.1 & 107.8 FM

Peter Lawrence

I was born and brought up in Bideford and first got interested in music in the early 1970's, when glam rock was at its peak. Marc Bolan, David Bowie, Alice Cooper, Slade and Sweet were among the first groups I listened to. My musical taste has continued to expand (along with my waist line) and I like to listen to all genres of music from progressive rock to punk and folk to reggae. As my record collection increased, I was invited to join the local hospital radio station as a presenter.

It was through the connections made there, that I was asked to present a show on The Voice. You can hear me on a Wednesday night between 6.00pm and 10.00pm for a mixed selection of music along with all the usual features including Album Re-Visited, Number Ones From The Past and Wednesday Worship at 8.30pm.

I have also compered several local events, including the annual Christmas light switch on at Clovelly and for the last couple of years I've been involved in the Bideford Quay New Year Celebrations, Barnstaple Picnic In The Park and Bideford Heritage Day.

Four decades of music. A chart from this day from the 60's, the 70's, the 80's and the 90's. Great hits and great memories.

Service Status

FM Failure - Barnstaple, Bideford and  Surrounding Areas

We are aware of problems today that are causing silence to be broadcast on our FM service. This is being caused by an equipment failure at our primary transmission site and is affecting all areas apart from Ilfracombe.

We are working on restoring the service and expect that it will be fully functional by Monday morning.

In the mean time, you can continue to listen on DAB or Listen Live Online
