Who are we?
The Voice North Devon
Who are we?
We are two radio stations: -
The Voice on 106.1 and 107.8 FM, digital DAB, online and via the smart speakers. and The Voice 2, on DAB, online and on smart speakers
We are a local radio station run by Devonians. Our presenters come from a variety of backgrounds but they have three things in common; a deep rooted passion for local radio; a heartfelt love for this very special part of the country that we're so fortunate to live in and an enduring wish to help and support the community of which we are all a part. We'd like to take this opportunity to thank all our presenters, they're very special people and their good humour, professionalism and enthusiasm definitely keeps this station buzzing.
We also employ a fully fledged Sales and Marketing team, Media and Creative Specialists to ensure that the business side of the station provides the best commercial service for the ever increasing numbers of successful businesses, charities and community events that are flourishing in North Devon.
In April 2024 we launched a second service for North Devon - The Voice 2 - A whole new radio station playing music from the 60s, 70s and early 80s, with all the local content you would expect from your local radio station.
Our Events and Street Teams are second to none. Many of the team members are volunteers who enthusiastically gift the station their time, smiles and energy to help out at events, festivals and fundraisers. We want to say a big thanks to all these volunteers - they are our family and without them we'd be half the station we are. If you'd like to become of this volunteer family then please email us at info@thevoicefm.co.uk and we'll get right back to you.
The History
Some of you might remember Lantern FM which was based Barnstaple many moons ago. It was a popular radio station which unfortunately closed in 2009. In June 2010 a social media campaign was started to get a local radio station back North Devon and by November that year, enough studio equipment had been bought and the first 28 day Restricted Service Licence (RSL) broadcasts started. The Voice had been born, its name derived from its heartfelt mission to give North Devon back its 'Voice'.
In April 2012 The Voice was launched as a Digital Radio station broadcasting on DAB (Digital ) Radio around Devon (except Plymouth). and it was granted a community radio licence to broadcast on FM around Bideford, Barnstaple and Ilfracombe.
By January 2014 our new FM service was launched on 106.1 and 107.8 fm and we've never looked back.
April 2024 launched The Voice 2.
The Future
The station continues to go from strength to strength. In 2017 the year culminated in the move to our new state of the art studios and media centre in Belle Meadow Court, Barnstaple. Since then we've added to our team of professional media experts, welcomed new presenters, grown our client base month on month, launched our new website and social media feeds and all the whilst continue to provide our North Devon community with a great broadcasting service.
Yes, the future looks rosy for this local radio station and for the community of which it serves. We look forward to being The Voice of North Devon for many years to come. In the last few years we have launched our own lottery, giving money to many local great causes, launched our own Local Hero Awards to celebrate the great people living here in North Devon and a new academy to help local people gain knowledge on marketing, radio, and building self-confidence.
